Following Victory’s 2-1 victory over Western United, head coach Tony Popovic addressed the media.
I’m truly just pleased for the group because, well, they never stop having faith in what we’re doing.
I felt that this team’s personality and character came across clearly. Actually, it has been all year. We may discuss about not making draws into victories. That is true. However, we have never lacked personality or character in any game.
It’s evident that opportunities are being generated, but for the ball to be successful, the players’ confidence is affected. We knew that possibilities would present themselves, and in the end, Damien shown his personality and experience, which made the group happy as that, in my opinion, is how we’ve played this year.
“I think we’ve been really consistent, aside from a really bad first half performance against Macarthur.” That’s why scoring two goals late was enjoyable.
When we scored the first goal, Bruno, Roddy, and everyone else were clearly attempting to pull everyone back to halfway. They weren’t content to settle for a draw and were determined to grab a second. That does not guarantee that you will be the winner.
However, it was evident that the attitude was one of “we will get another opportunity,” and that it was important to seize it. Daniel’s layoff was excellent, and you can only image how exhausted Damien was when he scored the goal.
“You know, it was a fantastic finish for the players for the Club and the fans, so keep it up and score.” Thus, everyone returns home content.
