In just 80 seconds, Danny Rose gave the Mariners the lead. Ged Brannan’s Sky Bet League Two play-off contenders, however, tied the score eight minutes into the second half through Jordan Slew.

After Grimsby swiftly created an opening down the right, Harry Clifton crossed for Rose, who was left unmarked, to turn the ball past Archie Mair from close range. This gave Grimsby the perfect start.

Before the Shrimps started to settle in, Grimsby looked the smarter team as Gavan Holohan saw a shot well blocked by Farrend Rawson and Rose attempted a long shot from outside the box.

Slew had a golden opportunity, but his shot from 12 yards out was deflected inches wide for a corner. As the half was coming to an end, Gwion Edwards got the first shooting on target for the home team, but Harvey Cartwright parried it away superbly.

Eight minutes into the second half, Slew gave the Shrimps their first response after Cartwiright mishandled a cross from Edwards to the right, allowing the striker to bundle the ball home.

In the mad dash for the win, teammate Slew stopped Edwards’ goalbound attempt. After that, Slew saw a cross go wide, and in the fourth minute of added time, Grimsby lost a great opportunity to win all three points when Holohan missed the mark from two yards out.
