NFL scouts can obtain quantitative information on prospects’ speed, explosiveness, agility, and strength during the Combine. In addition, it offers official body measures for things like height, weight, and arm length. The medical assessments and interviews that participating athletes undergo are likely the most underappreciated yet significant source of information that clubs receive.
Even while the top assessors don’t give athletic testing alone a lot of weight, it can be a useful filter to assist complete a prospect’s evaluation. A strong combine can be used to remove a player from consideration if their testing results fall short of certain basic athletic standards, but it shouldn’t propel a player up the ranks of teams or public evaluators.
