Coach of Mansfield Town’s first team, Andy Garner, stated that despite leading the table following today’s 5-1 thumping of Salford City, the players would not waver.

Though Garner cautioned there was still a long way to go, Stags have now scored 19 goals in four games and are a strong contender to unseat Stockport in the top spot.
Though Garner cautioned there was still a long way to go, Stags have now scored 19 goals in four games and are a strong contender to unseat Stockport in the top spot.

He declared, “We won’t get carried away, that’s for sure.”

This is not what our club will ever do. The players won’t let that happen, and neither will this management or our staff.

“All we said to them was to have fun tonight. Monday is back to work in preparation for an extremely difficult away game at Newport.

They are honourable men, and we have a great deal of experience working there.

“There are still a lot of games left, with 13 to go.

For now, we are having fun with it. After the disappointing loss at Walsall last week—a game we shouldn’t have lost—we had an amazing response today.

To be honest, we ought to have scored a few more today, he continued. It’s not excessive to say that.

“We won 5-1, but to be honest, we should have had eight with the opportunities we had—no offence to the other team.

“We are thrilled that we scored five outstanding goals.

Even at 4-1, there was no time for complacency. Our goal is to score goals.

It widens the gap between our goals. We’re sad to have lost, but it was an incredibly great victory.

“The hardest job right now is that all 18 of them could start today.

“We spend the entire week debating which team to choose, and our decision changes every day. You hope that whoever goes out there does the job because it is a nightmare. It is quite challenging.
