Homes England, the government’s housing and regeneration agency, will provide £67 million in funding for two residential complexes in Sheffield.
At the Convention of the North conference on Friday, March 1, Michael Gove, the secretary of state for homes, communities and levelling up, revealed a financing package that will help create two new communities at Furnace Hill and Neepsend.
The funding will support vital land assembly and enabling works across 12.4 acres of brownfield and underutilised land, enabling new homes and commercial space to be built, as part of wider regeneration activity.
“With this funding, Furnace Hill and Neepsend will begin to transform, opening the door for 1,300 new homes and 4,000 square metres of commercial space, and eventually, the creation of two new vibrant communities for the people of Sheffield to enjoy,” stated Homes England CEO Peter Denton.
“Using all of the resources at our disposal to assist locations in realising their local vision is a fundamental component of our mandate. A good illustration of how this is implemented in reality is the work we have done over the past two years with Sheffield City Council. After collaborating with the council and other neighbourhood stakeholders to develop a workable action plan, we’re
supplying the money needed to make it happen.”
The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, Homes England, Sheffield City Council, Sheffield Property Association, and South Yorkshire Housing Partnership are members of the Sheffield Together Housing Growth Board, which is leading the plans to redevelop Furnace Hill and Neepsend.
“We have just signed a Strategic Place Partnership between Homes England and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority,” said South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard. We will be able to establish early momentum with our business plans to promote housing expansion and regeneration throughout the greater South Yorkshire region thanks to this very welcome government offer of funding in Sheffield.”
