On an unmemorable night in the Principality, HUDDERSFIELD TOWN head coach Andre Brietenreiter did not hold back following his team’s poor Championship setback at Cardiff City, emphasising that he “could have changed everyone after the first half.

Following a 1-0 loss in South Wales, Town reverted to their poor winter ways after four very strong games under interim manager Jon Worthington and two positive early successes for new permanent boss Brietenreiter.

Town is still in danger of going down, just staying above the bottom three because they have more goals than Stoke, who are in 22nd position.

They play again on Sunday, at home against West Brom. If Sheffield Wednesday wins their match against Leeds United on Friday or if Stoke City draws their match at Preston on Saturday, they will already be in the bottom three.

There are reasons why we are 21st in the table and in the last few years nearly the same, Breitenreiter stated after suffering his first defeat as Town chief.

In just two weeks, things cannot be changed. But because we are fighting for our lives to stay in the league, I learnt a lot about the squad and saw a lot of things that need to change.

We need to play like we did in the last two games (against Watford and Leeds), and we should move on from this day as soon as possible.

After the first half, I could have made substitutions for everyone because the play was too sluggish and Cardiff’s opportunities came too easily.

We dominated the game and had great opportunities in the second half, but you shouldn’t be awarded a point if your performance isn’t 100%.

Danny Ward missed a clear opportunity to lead his former team, Town, as Cardiff defeated the West Yorkshire team and closed the gap to seven points in the play-offs.

For the first time since September, Cardiff won three games in a row thanks to a first-half goal from Famara Diedhiou.

The 31-year-old scored his first goal in the Championship since he scored two goals for Bristol City in a 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough on February 23, 2021.

I’m happy with the last four games,” stated head coach Erol Bulut.

We are doing well; it was difficult following Saturday’s derby victory against Bristol City, but we must remain optimistic.

You feel so much better after a game victory. We’ve regained our confidence in the last few games, and things appear lot better.

We can hopefully demonstrate much more than the ten games we have left to play.

But for now, I’m not thinking about the playoffs. We approach each game one at a time, and at the conclusion, we determine our outcome.

We’re aiming for the most points possible out of the thirty that are up for grabs.
