Mo Salah is currently sidelined at Liverpool, but that hasn’t stopped speculation about his future.

Liverpool managed to keep Salah in the summer. Despite tremendous interest from Saudi Arabia, the Reds stood firm and turned down enormous offers for the Egyptian.

Now that we’re in 2024 and the Saudi leadership is preparing to spend heavily in the summer, there’s discussion of Salah returning to the Middle East.

However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has speculated that, while Saudi interest exists, the player himself may opt to stay put.

Mo Salah could choose to stay in Liverpool

Ornstein answered questions in his recent Q&A for The Athletic, discussing what he knows about Salah.

And in his response, he stated that Salah’s choice to remain in Europe could benefit Liverpool.

“I’m not aware of any decisions on it yet. I’m sure Liverpool would like to extend Salah’s contract, but it’s his decision, and if he doesn’t, everyone concerned will have to determine whether he stays in his final year or if a sale is best (depending on offers),” Ornstein said.

“The intensity of interest from Saudi Arabia last summer implies they will try again in the next transfer window — but, as I’ve already stated on this site, I have heard that Salah would like to continue playing at the greatest level in Europe. On this one, we’ll have to be patient.”

There is no need to go

Yes, the prospect of traveling to the Middle East and becoming the poster boy for the Saudi game may interest Salah.

However, there is currently no other reason for the forward to quit Liverpool.

Salah is adored at Anfield and still in his prime. He shows no signs of slowing down either, and seeing him relocate to Saudi Arabia in that condition would be difficult to accept.

Salah has little motivation, save from money, to advocate for his departure. Salah may also consider Europe’s security as a safe option, given

the region’s deeper concerns that go beyond football.

In terms of football, Salah is most suited to staying with Liverpool and building his legacy.
