David Clowes intervened to salvage Derby County just as they were on the verge of complete bankruptcy.

As the Rams were forced to play in League One in 2022 due to point deductions and mounting debt, Pride Park was filled with animosity during the contentious ownership of Mel Morris.

Derby came just short of making the playoffs in their first season back in the third division, but Paul Warne’s team is poised to surpass that this year by securing automatic promotion.

The team is one point behind Bolton Wanderers, who they play next Saturday, in second position going into the last ten games of the season, thanks to the stability that David Clowes’ ownership has restored.

Promotion is hard to predict at this point because up to five teams can place in the top two, but Carlton Palmer thinks Derby will advance automatically.

Derby County will be promoted, in Carlton Palmer’s opinion.

The former Sheffield Wednesday player stated in an interview with Football League World: “I think Portsmouth will get the first automatic spot and it’s between the other four.” Peterborough and Barnsley both have a game in hand; if Barnsley wins, they would tie Bolton with the same number of games played, while Peterborough will trail by just two.

Until the end of the season, there will be an incredible amount of friction. I’m going to stick my neck out for Derby County, who I thought would get promoted automatically at the beginning of the season. However, Barnsley is the team that is presently having an incredible run. They are the team in form as they have won four and drawn two of their past six games.

Barnsley is the side that is playing at its best, but as I’ve already stated, I’m going to go with Derby County to secure that automatic slot.

I’ll hang my hat on Derby County earning the final automatic slot because I supported them from the beginning.

Although he has faith in Warne’s team to win, he gives Barnsley a chance and has identified their “unbelievable” form as the deciding element.
