Wouter Burger is out for the remainder of March for Stoke City.

In yesterday’s 2-1 victory over Preston North End, Burger received his tenth yellow card of the season—the point at which he was really suspended for having ten bookings.

The 23-year-old will now miss the next weekend’s home fixture against Norwich due to a two-match suspension. There will also be an international break after the match. On Good Friday, March 29, Stoke will play again without Burger at Hull City. Burger is expected to return for the home game against Huddersfield on Easter Monday.

Jordan Thompson, who was back in the team at Deepdale following a two-game ban for yellow cards, and Ben Pearson, who missed the Preston victory due to his own suspension following a midweek red card against Leeds, will compete for Burger’s spot in central midfield.
With those three points, Stoke climbed up to 19th in the Championship, but there is still a lot of separation in the bottom half. With nine games left, the Potters are just three points above Sheffield Wednesday, who are in second place, and three points behind Bristol City, who are in 14th place.

It’s going to be nip and tuck with loads of ups and downs for everybody,” stated Steven Schumacher. The squad that can maintain consistency and string together a few consecutive victories will prevail. We hope that turns out to be the case. We’ll be fine if we can demonstrate the same desire, I’m sure.
