Ryan Jack is unlikely to be at Rangers after this season as his injury record will count against him when his contract expires, according to Derek Ferguson.
The former midfielder for the Green Bay Packers acknowledges that the 32-year-old’s physical problems are not his fault, but it must be “really frustrating” to be sidelined on a regular basis given his ability to be among the best when healthy.
However, Jack’s future with the team appears to be sealed when Philippe Clement disclosed that he had to alter his preparations for the starting lineup against Hibs on March 10 due to the Scotland international developing a new issue while travelling to Benfica. Ferguson believes this to be the case.
In an exclusive interview with Ibrox News, he stated: “I believe so. It’s awful to witness boys, for no apparent reason, repeatedly suffering from injuries.
He seemed to be having problems. He has reached an age where injuries take a lot longer to recover from.
Ryan Jack must be really frustrated since, when healthy and fit, he is one of our better players and performers.
“But as a manager, you have to consider the big picture, and I believe he places a lot of emphasis on fitness, looking at players who can play at least thirty games a season.”
Ryan is a fantastic player, but regrettably, it appears that he is prone to injuries. This is terrible, but it does happen occasionally.
Injury issues to end Rangers career as contract expires
If Jack was healthy for extended periods of time, there’s a good chance he would be a regular starter for the Light Blues, at least prior to the major Mohamed Diomande trade in January.
Although negotiations have already begun with John Lundstram, whose contract expires this summer, there is no evidence that Jack has received the same treatment.
It’s not too difficult to understand why, given that he’s only made 11 appearances in the SPFL this season and only three in the Europa League, compared to Lundstram’s 27 outings in the league and eight appearances overall in the European competition.
