Sheffield Wednesday are likely to offload a long list of players this summer, and that could happen whether they are relegated or not.
Eleven Owls players have contracts expiring at the end of the season, while seven more may leave after their loan periods are up.
Then there is a tonne of unproductive players and players who are earning far more than they should, but being demoted to League One may also mean having to say goodbye to players they don’t particularly want to.
Although there have been reports that Barry Bannan will stay at Hillsborough even if they do drop to the third division, Danny Rohl and the team’s supporters will be worried about their squad if they can’t escape the relegation zone in a few months due to rumours circulating about their other key players.

Juan Delgado
Juan Delgado only joined Sheffield Wednesday last summer, but an injury during the October international break has left him on the sidelines ever-since.
Because it was anticipated that the Chilean would miss the remainder of the season due to his hip issue before entering the final 12 months of his contract, he wasn’t included in their 25-man roster last month.
Delgado may never “play for Wednesday again,” according to Danny Rohl, which may indicate that he is fired permanently just a year after signing from Pacos Ferreira.
Josh Windass
It would be a huge shame, but it would also be a surprise if Josh Windass was willing to play League One football again.
The midfielder was one of Sheffield Wednesday’s best players as they were promoted last season and he has been particularly important when he hasn’t been injured this time round.
Windass has been linked with a move to MLS recently, while he could also wait out another Championship move instead of signing a new contract with the Owls.
Marvin Johnson
Marvin Johnson has been ‘fantastic’ for Sheffield Wednesday and has clearly been a real favourite of Rohl’s, making 19 starts since the German brought him back into the fold.
It’s unclear how long his contract extension was last summer, so he could potentially leave for free, but it would also be a surprise if he didn’t push for a move away if the club are relegated anyway.
Johnson was subject to a £1 million bid from Ipswich Town in January and could be eager to leave if the Tractor Boys make a second approach this summer.
