Due to their alleged “tragedy chanting” directed at opposing fans, two football fans have been barred from all stadiums for a period of three years.

Following a match at Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium, Stoke City supporters Mark Turner, 44, and Callum Lawton, 28, were both accused of harassing, alarming, or distressing others.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police stated: Two visiting fans in the West Stand Upper away supporters’ section of the football stadium, immediately above the home fans, were spotted tragedy chanting with reference to Leeds United fans who died in Istanbul in 2000.

Before Leeds’ match against Galatasary in 2000, two Leeds supporters, Kevin Speight and Chris Loftus, were fatally stabbed in the Turkish city.

Stoke natives Lawton and Turner entered guilty pleas to the allegations and were placed on a three-year football suspension.

Turner received a sentence of £859, and Lawton was mandated to pay a fine of £253.
