The striker is making progress and is now back running at Riccarton
At Hearts’ training camp in Riccarton, Liam Boyce has made progress in his recuperation from an injury and is now back running outside. The striker from Northern Ireland underwent surgery this month to address a tendon issue in his thigh, but he won’t be returning to action before the season is out.
If he has no more setbacks, Hearts are optimistic that he will be ready to return before the campaign concludes. Boyce played his final match on December 2 at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock. When asked if he will play again this season, Steven Naismith, the head coach of the Hearts, responded positively.
“Yes, I believe there’s a possibility he will return,” Naismith said in an interview with the Edinburgh News. “He is making good progress, and he is back on the grass now. He’s still developing, but now that he’s back on the pitch, I would anticipate his return before the season is out.
“Although Boycie hasn’t played much football this year, he still contributes greatly to our team. He put in a lot of effort to recover from his injury from the previous season. This injury’s intermittent nature has been annoying. I believe he can be very valuable; we just need to manage him properly when he returns. His contributions to the squad and the games he has played this season have demonstrated that. Rather than pushing him too far, we should make sure he is right every weekend.”
Hearts extended Boyce’s contract in December to keep him at Tynecastle Park until summer 2025. He has made 20 appearances so far this season after having almost a year out with a cruciate ligament injury.
