Football Insider claims that Wrexham investigated a deal for the fellow League Two player before to the January transfer window.
Earlier this winter, Khan, 28, chose to remain at the County Ground after the deadline.
But given that he is now expected to miss the remainder of the season due to injury, it is likely a good thing the Red Dragons decided against signing him in the end.
Wrexham’s winter target ‘plagued’ with injury
Saidou Khan is out for the season, according to Swindon Advertiser reports from interim manager Gavin Gunning. I am aware that fans have been critical of Khan’s efforts, but you can see that his performances have suffered greatly as a result of the injury he has been dealing with for a little while.
Khan had non-league stints at Tooting & Mitcham, Maidstone United, and Chesterfield before joining the Robins in 2022.
Since then, he has been a mainstay for the middle-of-the-park Wiltshire team, making 70 appearances across all competitions while contributing two goals and four assists.
It’s unfortunate for him and Swindon that he was hurt, and maybe he can bounce back for the upcoming season.
The man, who was born in the Gambia, would have increased Wrexham’s midfield depth and competition. He would have had a tough time breaking into their starting lineup, though, as players like Andy Cannon and Tom O’Connor would have.
Additionally, it would have been devastating if Phil Parkinson’s team had signed him only to have him injured until the summer.
Khan may have been a waste of money for the Welsh team because he is still clearly bound to Swindon and they would have needed to pay a transfer fee to entice him to the Racecourse Ground.
In the year following their promotion from the National League, Wrexham has been astute in their hiring.
They are seeking for promotion to League One and have settled in nicely to life in the Football League.
They are in the top three right now, tied with Mansfield Town and Stockport County in third place. Last time out, the Red Dragons defeated the latter 2-0 thanks to two braces from striker Paul Mullin.
Wrexham’s next game is this evening on the road at Doncaster Rovers as they look to keep their momentum going.
