Portsmouth signed the midfielder on a short-term deal after he left Ipswich Town in the Championship.

Evans, 29, made his League One debut Friday night in a 2-2 draw at home against Derby County.

His contract ends in the summer, and John Mousinho should consider extending it, regardless of which league his team is in as they approach promotion to the second tier.

Evans has previously been promoted from Portsmouth’s current level three times.

He hasn’t been 100% fit since his move to Fratton Park, which is why Mousinho has gradually eased him into the team.

However, there is no doubt about his ability, and if they can get him up to speed, they will have a good player on their hands.
Evans increases competition and depth in Pompey’s midfield department while also injecting some quality into their ranks.

He has played just under 350 games in his career, and that experience will come in helpful when they dress.

Assuming the Hampshire club gets over the line this season, they may use someone with his experience in the coming season, even if he is not promised regular football.
The Wales international has four caps for his country and has formerly played for Newport County, Wolves, Bradford City, Wigan Athletic, and Sheffield United.

Evans joined for his old side, Ipswich, in 2021 under former manager Paul Cook, and went on to make 61 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals.

His playing time with the East Anglians dried up throughout the first part of the season, which is why he was permitted to leave.

He caught the attention in the middle of the pitch for Portsmouth against Derby yesterday, and they should start thinking about his future sooner rather than later.
