Residents of a road in Norfolk Park, Sheffield are calling for parking restrictions as they say their lives are “blighted on a daily basis” by people parking outside their homes.

Jane Hilton launched an online petition asking Sheffield City Council to turn Castle Croft Drive into a residents-only parking zone that is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It states that locals notify South Yorkshire Police (SYP) on a daily basis about incidents of anti-social behaviour (ASB) connected to parking concerns.

The petition, available on the council website until April 29th, has 32 signatures as of right now.

According to the petition, residents of Castle Croft Drive have been asking for parking restrictions for the past eight years. Every day, between fifty and sixty cars clog our road, taking advantage of the free parking. This causes litter, loud music, drug use, blocked driveways, blind bend parking, speeding by some cars, access difficulties for large and emergency vehicles, pollution, and ASB.

“If residents ask drivers to move their cars out of driveways, they frequently receive threats and abuse.” Every day, we report parking problems and related behaviour to SYP.

The state of affairs is affecting not only our mental health but also our children’s and pets’ safety. It is not acceptable.

According to South Yorkshire Police data, Castle Croft Drive received the joint most reports of antisocial behaviour in Sheffield in November 2023. That equated to the region around West Street in the city centre at five incidences that were reported.
