A 30-year-old Wolverhampton man has been detained following a siege in Bilston.

Police on Tuesday afternoon safely resolved a Wolverhampton issue in which a man had allegedly barricaded himself inside a house on Shale Street for over 12 hours.

The 30-year-old male was apprehended by officers shortly after 1pm and placed under arrest to be questioned.

Armed police were called to an address on Shale Street just after 11pm on Easter Monday, following reports of concern for the welfare of a man.

Force negotiators were brought in after he barricaded himself into a property.

Residents expressed their surprise at seeing such a huge police presence in the street before the matter was safely resolved on Tuesday afternoon.

“It happened around midnight, 1am, just a bunch of police cars and armed officers,” said 49-year-old Lynn Davis.

“It really scares you when stuff like this happens.”

Jerome Brown, 28, of Bilston, said “It’s a bit strange isn’t it.

“It’s not the first time armed officers have been around here, but yeah, hope everything’s alright.”

A representative with JB Autos, a Shale Street vehicle repair shop, said: “We have been informed that we cannot open for business at this time, but we weren’t given much information.”

We may need to spend some time here as we’ve heard there’s a roadblock. Really, there’s a lot of money to lose in a day.”

Police expressed their gratitude for the patience of the impacted local people in an interview with the Express & Star.
