Marvin Johnson has now explained why he missed Sheffield Wednesday’s win over QPR.

Marvin Johnson was completely absent from the matchday squad for their trip to Loftus Road, leaving fans to speculate about possible issues with him.
Under Danny Rohl, the 33-year-old has grown into a vital member of the team and has played the whole 90 minutes in 17 of their previous 19 Championship games.

Johnson, though, was not even listed on the bench as they defeated QPR 2-0 yesterday, a crucial victory.

When asked if Johnson was hurt, Rohl responded to BBC Sheffield by saying, “We had some little issues, but I won’t talk about Marvin today. I will limit my speech to my squad since they are combative and have the proper mindset.

While it had appeared they had had a strong relationship for the rest of the campaign, Rohl’s comments had suggested that perhaps he didn’t think Johnson had the ‘right attitude’.

Marvin Johnson explains absence

The versatile winger has taken to social media to clarify his absence though, making it clear that there are no problems between him and the German manager.

Following a social media fan question, Johnson said, “Slight injury mate been dealing with past few weeks.”

“Fans love you, but they’ll turn quick on any player that is not fully committed,” the fan retorted. Return with strength and all of your might!

Johnson quickly dispelled any confusion by responding, “Always committed.”

Should Sheffield Wednesday fans be worried?

The veteran, one of several players whose futures at Hillsborough are uncertain, has been a crucial member of the Owls this season.

Even if they won all three points without him, there’s no doubting that Johnson can be crucial to the team’s success this season, and the club and supporters won’t want rumours about his attitude to circulate.

But if Johnson’s injury is all that is wrong, then it raises the question of why Rohl chose to raise the possibility of an off-field issue forcing Johnson off the team rather than elaborate on that.

Over the course of the next few games, we’ll see if he is able to rejoin the team, but fans will undoubtedly want him to remain a vital part of the group until the very end of the season.
