Elliott Bennett, a winger for Shrewsbury, became enraged after the penalty that put Pompey in contention to advance to the Championship.
Additionally, the former Norwich player disclosed that he challenged Blues scorer Kusini Yengi after it was determined that Carl Winchester had fouled him during the 3-1 victory at Fratton.
Bennett insisted that Colby Bishop’s spot-kick, which came just before halftime, was correctly called by referee Charles Breakspear.
He stated on the official Shrewsbury website, “I believe it’s a case of what might have been.”
We had a solid plan when we arrived here. Additionally, even though we did concede early, I thought we continuously annoyed them.
“I’m right next to it; we scored a really well-worked goal, and it’s never been a penalty in a million years.”
I repeated that statement to the referee several times. I expressed my opinion to their athlete over his choice to fall to the ground.
And you can usually tell by another player’s response if they don’t retaliate or call for a penalty. All he did was smile at me.
We were down 2-1 at the exact moment of halftime, so it was a bit of a kick in the teeth.
At halftime, we had a brief conversation about how we could improve. We seemed to have done it in the second part.
We also created a few opportunities; if we take one, the score is 2-2, and you never know what can happen.
Since they are vying for the title, they will be tense. We didn’t score, though. The third goal, in our opinion, is also poor.
“It was annoying.” Letdown. To be honest, though, if you look at the table, I believe we came here with a plan and executed it against the top club in the league.
After Pompey hero Matt Taylor was dismissed as manager by Paul Hurst in January, Shrewsbury had gone three games without losing when they suffered their defeat.
Bennett went on, “Since the gaffer took over, the performances have improved.” In the dressing room, I believe everyone would tell you that.
“I believe the spectators, who have come a long way, would say that we came with a plan, and they were able to see what that plan was.”
We made a solid effort at it; we didn’t just sit there for ninety minutes and hope we lost 3-0 rather than 5-0.
We have, regrettably, failed to gain any points. But taking part in it was beneficial.
“Losing football games is never fun, but we have four games left to focus on and see how many points we can accumulate before the season ends.”
Gaining as many points as possible is crucial for both the team and the players.
“It’s nice to end the season as well as you can to give yourself that feel-good factor going into next season,” the manager added, looking forward to the summer.
