Richardson said that the way his side lost, which was sealed by a goal in the 32nd minute, encapsulated their 23-point season thus far out of 41 games.
“(It’s) probably very similar emotions that I’ve had since I’ve been in building in knowing the challenges and issues we need to address,” said Richardson, who took over a team bottom of the Championship in December and has been unable to turn their fortunes around.
“The performance probably typified the whole season, a bit lacklustre and a bit lacking in quality and desire.

“You’d like to think at home on Sky under the lights we’d be a better version of ourselves, especially (in the) first half.”
At the conclusion of every half, the crowd at New York Stadium jeered Rotherham off, and Richardson said, “I was almost one of them.
“The Championship still has five games remaining. If the boys want to be available, put on the badge, and perform better than they did tonight, they should do it.
“The question was not if, but when. It’s the 41 games, not just one, not the Plymouth game.
That doesn’t represent me, and that pains me.
“I accept full responsibility, am fully involved, and am not running away from anything, but that doesn’t currently represent who I am.
“Hopefully we get a hard-working environment and culture that represents me and the football club.”
