Stoke City manager Steve Schumacher has spoken out following his side’s defeat before of their match against Sheffield Wednesday.

Stoke City manager Steven Schumacher has spoken about his team’s ‘terrible performance’ against Swansea City on Wednesday night. Sheffield Wednesday’s relegation rivals include the Potters, who are now three points above the relegation zone, as well as the Owls.

Stoke had the opportunity to widen the margin on Wednesday when they faced Swansea City away from home, but they ‘fell short’, according to their manager. “I felt we were beaten by the better team on the night; Swansea outperformed us in all departments,” Schumacher stated after the game.

They won all of the battles, including the 50:50s, and they passed the ball better and looked brighter from set pieces. It was a bad performance from us, something we did not expect given how well we had been playing. We just went a little low tonight and were punished. That’s the Championship for you; if you don’t give it your all, you’ll get turned over.”

During the game, Stoke had a goal disallowed for Niall Ennis, while Swansea were awarded a penalty. “There are also a few key decisions that have gone against us,” said the Stoke manager. “In any Championship game, important decisions have to go your way; sadly, they didn’t tonight. I won’t use that as an excuse because the overall performance was poor, and Swansea were superior in any case.” Stoke and Wednesday will now face battle this Saturday with only three points separating them, despite the fact that the Potters have a far superior goal difference. The Potters’ next two games could be critical, as they face another relegation-threatened side in Plymouth Argyle after they face the Owls.
