It has been just over six months since Danny Rohl was appointed Sheffield Wednesday manager, shortly after Xisco Munoz’s sacking.

The Owls were already seven points down at the bottom of the Championship table, having lost eight of their first ten games under the Spanish manager.

Rohl’s arrival, however, gave Wednesday fans hope, as they secured their first win of the season in only his third game in command.

The Yorkshire club then went on a run of six wins in nine matches across all competitions before suffering another setback at the start of the year.

Another run of five victories in six matches put them on the verge of staying up, but inconsistency keeps them one point below.

Wednesday could possibly be relegated to League One this season, but Rohl has rejuvenated the club and lifted emotions at Hillsborough.

Fans love the German and will be desperate for him to stay no matter what happens.

The 34-year-old has now explained the ‘unbelievable’ thing supporters have done for him during his time at the club.

“The welcome was special and now the feedback from the fans,” Röhl told The Star.

“I was in the supermarket and so many people come to me and said we do a good job and asked for a picture. You see what it means for the people in our city. Sometimes when I am here at the training ground it is always work, work, work and it is not always easy to recognise what it means for the people around.

“But when you go to do regular activities in the city, amazing. I was at a petrol station one morning at 7 a.m. when a motorist stopped to perform my song. This is incredible to witness, and I can sense how honest and happy individuals are to be a part of our club. This is always the reason you arrive in the morning and leave in the evening, to try everything and be ready for the next game. This is why it is critical that we strive for the next points and make our big fans happy.”

Sheffield Wednesday fans have warmly welcomed Danny Rohl and made him feel like a member of the family, and he has given back via the team’s performances and hard work on and off the pitch.

The friendship and positivism around Middlewood Road have given the Owls a chance of staying up despite such a dismal start to the season.

The fans will need to play an even more important role in these next three games, particularly their one remaining home game against West Brom next week.

They will have to play the role of the twelfth man if they are to urge their team to victory.

It would be pretty unexpected to see Rohl stay on Wednesday are relegated, but fans will remember him very fondly no matter what decision he makes.
