Sheffield United’s development team put on a goal-scoring masterclass at Bramall Lane on Monday afternoon, beating Watford 5-0.
The Blades saw a few first team players start the game. Adam Davies was between the sticks whilst Anis Slimane banked 60 minutes with a fine performance in central midfield. And the young Dane Will Osula started up front, coming up with the goods with a superb 21-minute hat-trick.
Osula, 20, has made 19 Premier League appearances this season and twice in the FA Cup. Unfortunately, he is yet to open his account in the Premier League, but he did score three goals in Sheffield United’s brief FA Cup campaign.
Some Bramall Lane supporters have criticised Osula for failing to produce in the league. However, supporters appear to forget that he was thrown into the deep end for much of the season due to various injury issues at the top of the game.
The Danish under-21 international has plenty of promise, and his playing style might be a valuable asset in the future. He’s tall, has a lot of speed, and is very direct on the ball.
Sheffield United must find a method to improve his composure and decision-making in important situations. We’ve seen him do it for the development team, so it might be a case of trying to force it too much for the first team.
