Reactions from the neighbourhood to a St. Pete man accused of killing his wife and pursuing the ambulance she was in
Dorothy Lehner, a St. Pete resident, stated, “I was about to go to bed when I noticed all these lights flickering through the windows. I go outside, and all my neighbours are out, and we are all looking down the block and we see four or five cop cars.”
“It was scary because when we woke up this morning, the cops were still there, and they had the crime scene tape, and it’s like, oh my, what could that have been?” Lehner stated.
According to St. Pete Police, an altercation broke out between a couple on Wednesday night when they were staying with relatives at a house on 29 Avenue North.
According to officials, that is when Devin Hansen shot Yasmin Grijalva, his 35-year-old wife.
“Oh my God, are I really four houses away? “This never happens,” I exclaimed. I was therefore taken aback. I’m still in disbelief,” Lehner remarked.
Investigators claim that Hansen followed Grijalva in the ambulance in a black Cadillac.
He was eventually stopped by officers, and the Cadillac ended up crashing close to 54th Avenue South.
“Never in my wildest dreams would I think somebody got killed,” stated Lehner.
Although the neighbourhood is usually calm and quiet, the gunfire has made the neighbours nervous.
“I believe that instead of creating fear in the neighbourhood, this will encourage people to watch out for one another and ask each other if they spot something unusual. Have you noticed that? Just to be extra cautious,” Lehner remarked.
“You never leave that feeling, you never forget that sight, and a lot of people will be shocked, and I hope they seek the care of some counselling and mental health to get them through that,” Lehner added.
