The incident occurred on Mosshead Road in Kilmarnock at 7.10 p.m. on Friday, January 19.
The vehicle, a red Audi, fled the scene and was subsequently discovered abandoned on an unclassified road between the A719 and B744 near Tarbolton.
Police eventually determined that the automobile was stolen from the Livingston area.
The 43-year-old male pedestrian sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
Detective Constable Ross Brierley stated, “Enquiries into the full circumstances of this incident are ongoing, and we are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.”
“If you were in the Mosshead Road area on Friday night and saw anything unusual or believe you can help us with our investigations in any way, please get in touch.
“I would also ask anyone with private CCTV, doorbell cameras or dashcams to review their footage of the area and bring anything of significance to our attention.”
