It was anticipated that they would each only miss one game.
Selwyn Cobbo and Ezra Mam may miss a second game, according to Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters.
The two were unexpectedly left off of Brisbane’s squad for this weekend’s match against the Wests Tigers.
In the Broncos’ team release on Tuesday afternoon, Walters stated that both players were only anticipated to miss one week of action. He also mentioned that their injuries were only “benefiting” from a week off, which raised the possibility that both players were selected to play if this week’s game had been a knockout match.
“Scans on Selwyn and Ezra revealed injuries that would be better off being missed this week. We anticipate having both of them back next week,” Walters said in a Tuesday afternoon club statement.
However, Brisbane was able to confirm the availability of four important players for their Saturday night match against the Tigers: Adam Reynolds, Deine Mariner, Brendan Piakura, and Payne Haas.
Walters has acknowledged that Cobbo and Mam are still sore and that it is now doubtful if they will play the Roosters the following weekend.
Before the team’s captain’s run on Friday ahead of Saturday’s game against the Wests Tigers at Campbelltown, Walters told the media on Friday morning that “they are still pretty sore (on Friday) so I would say they will be doubtful for next week.”
“But that’s okay, we have a lot of depth here, and it’s exciting because it gives other players some opportunities.”
For their matchup this week, Jock Madden and Corey Oates have taken their places.
Oates has played a variety of positions but lines up on the wing this weekend. Madden has been playing halfback in place of the injured Reynolds in recent weeks, so he moves from seven to six this week.
With a four-and-three record as of right now, the Broncos will be looking to solidify their top-eight position this coming weekend against the 2023 grand finalists.
