Reading FC manager Ruben Selles admitted that he is confident that the first-team players out of contact this summer will remain at the club.

There are several first-team players whose current deals will expire at the end of the season including: Joel Periera, Femi Azeez, Clinton Mola, Jeriel Dorsett, Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, Sam Hutchinson and Tivonge Rushesha.

However, Selles is relaxed about the situation and has said that the club has options to extend the deals on several of those players.

“There is only one player who is in talks to extend his contract and does not have that option.”

While acknowledging that there is a limit to the amount of work that can be done while a takeover is ongoing, Selles is already planning for the upcoming campaign.

“We can take the team into the next phase, and as far as the squad goes, I don’t think we need much more,” he said. All I think is that we need help.

“We cannot have that without having strong support around the team and removing some of the situations we had this year.

“The next level for us is going to depend a lot on the support we get.

“I feel myself I’m a better coach now than when we started. When you start a job you never expect to have this kind of season.

“We’ve developed a platform for the club to develop in the coming years which is positive. I hope we can carry on continuing in the future.”
