This afternoon, Crystal Palace will return to Premier League action as they travel to Craven Cottage to play Fulham.
Marc Guehi, the England international who has been out since February due to a knee injury, will be out of the starting lineup once more.
Oliver Glasner recently revealed that the former Chelsea prospect might be able to make a comeback to the starting lineup for the match against Manchester United the following week.
Eagles fans might not have many more opportunities to see the defender play for the team, though, as he has been linked to a move from Selhurst Park. Palace officials have already named two potential successors for the defender.
Crystal Palace’s substitutes for Marc Guehi
Guehi is expected to go during the impending summer transfer window in order to play football in Europe with a new team, according to The Palace Way.
His current contract with the Eagles is set to end in2026, and the article asserts that he has no interest in signing a new one.
According to the report, the board is getting ready for his departure but won’t let him to go for less than the £50 million that Manchester United spent to acquire Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Despite being turned off by the potential cost, Tottenham is reportedly keeping an eye on the centre back.
According to The Palace Way, the team is reportedly considering replacing Guehi with either Jacob Greaves of Hull City or Ronnie Edwards of Peterborough United. They are reportedly already making plans to ensure that Glasner is not short in that area of the pitch.
A cost of up to £20 million could be needed to acquire Greaves, according to former England midfielder Carlton Palmer. In January, The Independent revealed that the Posh are reportedly holding out for £10 million for Edwards.
Why Jacob Greaves should be signed by Palace
As a left-sided and left-footed central defender for the Tigers in the Championship, the 23-year-old star of Hull has been playing at a very high level.
He was named to the divisional Team of the Season at the EFL Awards earlier this month, a testament to the calibre and reliability of his performances in the second tier.
Despite the fact that Guehi is presently playing at a lower level, Greaves’ defensive numbers in the Premier League this season have outperformed his, as you can see in the table above.
It does, however, imply that if he can repeat similar achievements in the top division, he has the potential to be an excellent replacement for the Palace player.
Edwards, on the other hand, would probably be a long-term project who could develop into a defender capable of playing for the first team. He is 21 years old and currently plays for Peterborough in League One. In 44 games this season, he has won 61% of his duels.
For £10 million, he might be brought to Selhurst Park as a backup, with Greaves likely to start beside Joachim Andersen in Guehi’s place.
