Finn McMillan, an exciting 18-year-old forward, has signed a professional deal with the Barrow Raiders.

The Raiders battled off interest from an unidentified Betfred Super League team to capture his services permanently, and the arrangement extends until the end of the 2026 season.

Due to his dual registration with his local amateur side, Roose Pioneers, the second-rower was initially a part of the first team setup.

He has been a member of Roose for over ten years, having started playing when he was six years old. At the age of sixteen, McMillan later joined Barrow’s development team, Furness Raiders.

He can play centre or back row; his College League achievements surprised the club’s management, and he has been training with the first team ever since.

In fact, the young forward received his Raiders debut earlier this year in the Betfred Challenge Cup against Oldham. Paul, his father, will continue to mentor him. He currently works as a coach with the Furness Raiders and Roose Pioneers and is a member of Paul Crarey’s backroom staff.

“Being able to officially join Barrow Raiders is a dream come true. From my early years, I’ve always wanted to sign with the club,” McMillan stated.

“From the age of six to eighteen, my dad was my coach. He taught me everything I know, and without him, I wouldn’t be the player I am today.

“I’m a dedicated worker who is ready to pick up new skills. Hopefully, I can play in a few more games this season. I understand that I must exercise patience and that the right time will come.

Paul Crarey, head coach of the Barrow Raiders, stated: “Finn has played in a few preseason friendlies, impressed all of our coaching staff while training with our first team squad, and came through the community game.”

“He understands how much work it takes to win at the championship level, but he is more than willing and able to put in the necessary time and effort to succeed.

“A special congratulations goes out to the academy coaching staff, who have dedicated many hours to coaching our development squad. We hope that a large number of upcoming Barrow Raiders players will pass through our programmes in the future.

“Finn has all the necessary skills to be a great rugby league player,” stated director of rugby Andy Gaffney.

“Although he is still young and has a long way to go, we are convinced that he will have the best years of his career with the Raiders because of the drive and desire he has shown to be a part of our club.

“It is not surprising that Super League teams are interested in a player of his calibre, but Finn’s decision to remain with the Raiders to further his career is a testament to his faith in the opportunities we strive to offer the best local talent.”
