Wolves are looking to get a jump start on the 2024 summer transfer window.
Prior to the start of the summer transfer window in 2024, Wolves hopes to finalise an agreement with a new recruit.
As the 2023–24 Premier League season comes to an end, it is reasonable to conclude that Gary O’Neil has performed admirably in his first year behind the bench. The Old Gold are presently 12th in the standings and have essentially avoided relegation the entire season.
Despite the outcome of their next four games, Wolves have already outperformed their 2022–23 season, as they currently have 43 points as opposed to 41 from the previous year. But adjustments on the pitch are required if the Midlands team is to go forward and start contending for a European spot.
Financial difficulties prevented O’Neil from acquiring Chelsea striker Armando Broja during the January transfer window, but as the newest summer transfer window draws near, Wolves have already been linked to a number of players who would strengthen their roster. According to reports earlier this week, Wolves loanee Tommy Doyle is expected to sign a long-term deal at Molineux, and the team intends to exercise their £4.3 million buyout option from Manchester City.
Additionally, it is reported that Wolves have started reorganising their offensive line and have put in a bid for Rodrigo Gomes, an attacker for SC Braga who is presently spending the season on loan at Estoril. It is now predicted that a new player will arrive at Molineux soon.
Turkish publication Takvim (via Sport Witness) reports that Gary O’Neil’s team is putting €12 million (£10.2 million) on the table for Bright Osayi-Samuel, the right-back for Fenerbahce.
Wolves appeared to be impressed by what they saw when they watched the 26-year-old play against Olympiacos earlier this month in the UEFA Conference League. Given that Osayi-Samuel’s contract is set to end in June 2025 and Fenerbahce is reportedly under pressure to sell, Takvim speculates that there may be “quick developments” and that the Turkish side is eager to make an agreement.
Osayi-Samuel left Championship team QPR in January 2021 to join his current team. Manager Mark Warburton gave the defence great marks while he was practicing in England.
“In games, he’s been very good at times, but today he was consistent from the opening whistle to the 75th minute,” Warburton stated in 2020 following an Osayi-Samuel victory over Cardiff City.
“I doubt many teams play with such blazing speed. As long as he understands how to use it; for him, mastering the game is crucial.
He puts in a lot of work. He terrifies defenders with his sheer pace, and when he utilises it wisely like he did today, he looks like a real handful. I’m happy for him, and it’s encouraging for the audience to see a player that can move the crowd, which is what you want.”
Osayi-Samuel, who is estimated by Transfermarkt to be worth roughly £7.2 million, had three goals and six assists in 34 games for Fenerbahce this season in all competitions.
