Chairman Mike Goodwin, who was joined on stage by Spireites legend Jamie Hewitt to accept the award, was asked for his thoughts on promotion.
The Spireites won a Special Achievement Award at The Star Football Awards, held at the OEC in Sheffield on Monday evening.
He said: “It’s fantastic. We’ve had six years in the wilderness but to get back in the EFL is fantastic and we’re looking forward to next season.
“Paul Cook is a great manager. He’s enthusiastic, passionate and enigmatic. Paul strengthened the side in the close season, we hit the ground running and we hit the top of the league in September and never lost it.”
A number of well-known former players, including Mick McCarthy, Chris Kamara, John Sheridan, Tony Currie, and Ted Hemsley, who was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award, attended the event in addition to representatives from local teams. Monthly Spireites in Mind meetings are held at the SMH Group Stadium, and Tony and Ted are regular attendees.
