The Hull owner has been speaking to Sport Klub, relayed by Yeniakit, as he plans to purchase Slovenian club Maribor.

Hull City owner Acun Ilıcalı has revealed he still harbours a dream of signing Fenerbahçe’s Miha Zajc after targeting him when he first bought the club.

The Turkish businessman bought the Tigers from the Allam family in 2022 as he sought to move back into football after a previous and short spell with Fortuna Sittard.

Last year he added Shelbourne FC to his group and is now eyeing Maribor, who he believes are an ideal fit for the network that he is growing.

His impact was evident at Hull from the start, as the team adopted a strong Turkish theme while he was in charge, especially in the playing group, which saw the signing of multiple Turkish players in the previous two years.
For instance, Abdülkadir Ömür joined last summer, while Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, Doğukan Sinik, and Ozan Tufan all entered in the 2022–2023 season.

However, it appears that Ilicali still hasn’t given up on obtaining him, as his latest club is based in Slovenia, where his original target was from.

“My first target when I took over Hull City was Zajc, but he unfortunately decided to stay at Fenerbahçe,” the man stated.

I consider myself rather fortunate to be a fan of Fenerbahçe. We’ll wait and see what transpires.

“He could wish to visit Maribor when we move forward with implementing our project in Slovenia with Slovenian players. He has always piqued our attention in Hull.
