Bristol Bears hand promising scrum-half a new contract

In order to guarantee that the team has a robust supply of specialised nines going into the 2024–25 season, the Bristol Bears have confirmed that 24-year-old scrum half Sam Wolstenholme has agreed to a new contract extension with the team.

Wolstenholme came to the team from Leicester Tigers, via Wasps, in the summer. With Ireland’s Kieran Marmion at number two and England’s Harry Randall as the first choice for the Bears, Wolstenholme has only made four appearances this season but has impressed when he has, starting in the Investec Champions Cup against Bordeaux-Begles.

Pat Lam, director of rugby at Bristol, stated: “We’re thrilled that Wolsty will be sticking with the Bears on his journey. On and off the pitch, he has been a great asset to our scrum half ranks, and we are thrilled with the growth and advancement he has made in just his first season with us.

“I’ve enjoyed my first season with the Bristol Bears and feel like I have developed my game significantly during this time,” Wolstenholme said. “His attitude and determination to improve and compete as a player has been impressive and I believe the quality performances of our two experienced scrum halves Harry Randall and Kieran Marmion is largely down to Wolsty nipping at their heels.”
