According to Johnnie Jackson, Lewis Ward will play 90 minutes against Maidenhead on Tuesday night as the AFC Wimbledon manager assesses the competition between Owen Goodman, a Crystal Palace loanee, and Lewis Ward for the starting shirt.

At Plough Lane on Saturdayafternoon, Goodman got things started in the 2-0 victory over League One team Charlton.

Last Saturday, the 20-year-old also started the first half of the 5-2 loss to Brentford.

Goodman and Ward both joined during the summer, with Ward signing a one-year contract after being cut loose by Charlton

The Dons travel to Maidenhead United of the National League on Tuesday, and their final preseason test is against Barnet the following Saturday.

According to Jackson, “They will both receive opportunities and minutes.”

Owen was the one who received ninety minutes today.

“On Tuesday, Wardy will score ninety. Then, when we approach closer, we will have to decide what to do.

Owen should be happy with his clean sheet since, in my opinion, he performed admirably.

It is normal for him to need to make a few saves when facing a strong squad. They’ll experience their moments.

“When we needed him, he was available. He performed admirably.

Goodman, a young player for the Eagles, arrived in the middle of July, even though the Dons had earlier in the transfer window agreed to sign the former Colchester loanee.

“If everything had been right, we would have gotten him before we left for Spain,” Jackson continued.

“We could have completed the tasks necessary to obtain what was expected of him.

“Making saves and becoming a competent goalie are prerequisites, but he also needs to get adjusted to other aspects of our play.

He’s just now beginning to do it. You observed that he kicked really well today. He appeared confident and placed it in some pretty nice spots.
