The Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division team has utilised its newest Trident Community Foundation funding to collaborate with The Challenge Hub, where 75 volunteers can take on physical, educational, and social challenges.

It’s all part of the Robins’ efforts to make its valuable volunteers feel appreciated, with seven hardy souls recently undertaking a sponsored walk from Hurst Cross to Matlock for their league meeting.

The game may have been cancelled owing to inclement weather, but vice-chairman Steve Hobson praised it as the beginning of an exciting sequence of events.

They raised £4,000 for our charity, Ashton United in the Community, said Hobson.

They did everything in two days, leaving on Friday for Bakewell. When they took off, the heavens opened and they experienced every weather condition imaginable. We thought we’d have to go rescue them.

They arrived in Matlock the next day, and the game was called off. I can’t praise them enough for what they done.

We have 75 registered volunteers, and one of the most important aspects for us is retaining them, taking care of them, and making them feel special and cherished.

The Robins’ followers and volunteers have not been deterred, and they intend to run a drinks stall during the forthcoming Manchester Marathon, as well as organise a sponsored spin.

All proceeds will benefit the club’s charity, Ashton United in the Community, which operates a variety of programmes to assist the local community.

Hobson disclosed that it is all possible owing to financing from the Trident Community Foundation, with Ashton’s plan being one of hundreds funded by the programme, which has awarded over £430,000 to community projects since its inception by NPL partners Pitching In in December 2020.

He continued, The grant funding makes it happen because we have to pay to join the challenge, which is only a tenner, but we have allocated a budget of £150 per person to carry out these challenges over the next year.”

We live in one of England’s most deprived areas, ranking in the top 2%. They wouldn’t be able to achieve these things without the Trident funding.

A challenge may be swimming, but they can’t afford it, so we’d pay for it with the award. It enables this task to take place.

Ashton United in the town is a major charity in our town.
