Release clauses have enabled Erling Haaland, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Enzo Fernandez to make significant moves in recent years. Now, one of Europe’s most promising players may follow suit.

Indeed, there has been much discussion about a possible transfer in the upcoming months, and Viktor Gyokeres’ Sporting contract contains a well-publicized €100 million release clause.

The striker is reportedly much sought after by Arsenal, and, intriguingly, the Gunners might not even have to pay his release clause to get him.

In fact, Steve Kay claims on KS1TV that he was just informed that Gyokeres may actually join with Arsenal for less than his release clause.

Kay spoke about the ‘incredible’ striker.

“Yeah, I think there’s talk that they could get him for less than the release clause. I heard that today someone I was talking to said that they could get him for a lot less than his release clause is,” Kay said.

This is the only way that Arsenal are going to get a worthwhile deal on Gyokeres.

Yes, the Scandinavian looks to be a star, but let’s not forget, just a few months ago he was playing for Coventry City, while he didn’t make it at Brighton.

Paying €100m for a player with that sort of pedigree screams bad business to us, but if Arsenal can get him for a significant discount as Kay suggests, this could be one worth gambling on.

Whether or not Arsenal do go for Gyokeres remains to be seen, but if there’s a half decent deal on the table, the Gunners should be all over this one.
