Mikel Arteta has hinted that Arsenal would not make any additions between now and the end of the January transfer window.
The Gunners smashed Crystal Palace 5-0 on Saturday to maintain their lead in the Premier League title race, but they have yet to make any winter moves to strengthen their team.
And there appears to be no rush to do so, with their boss saying he is “happy” with the group at his disposal.
When asked if his squad could overcome Liverpool and Manchester City to the crown after falling short last season, Arteta replied: “We will do our best. We need to ensure that our players feel trustworthy and confident. If they are skeptical, it is not helpful. We enjoy the players we have.”
Arsenal’s overwhelming victory over Palace at the Emirates Stadium was their largest win of the 2023/24 season, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring twice.
However, the overwhelming belief is that the Gunners still lack a top number nine – a striker capable of scoring consistently.
That is clear from the fact that Arsenal has not had a player score 20 goals during a Premier League season since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2019/20.
After 21 games this season, the Gunners are third. They return to action on January 30th, visiting Nottingham Forest.
