Following fresh negotiations with Juventus over the past 24 hours, sources have informed Football Insider that Douglas Luiz is getting closer to leaving Aston Villa.

For the 26-year-old midfielder, the two clubs have agreed to a players-plus-cash contract.

Luiz is joining Serie A powerhouse Juventus, while Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea have decided to join Aston Villa this summer.

The Brazil international will cost the Midlands powerhouses a cool £25 million, according to the Old Lady.

As Villa’s financial accounts transfer to the 2024–25 season at the end of this month, a contract is now expected to be concluded.

At Villa, Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea are about to join the horde of new players that already includes Lewis Dobbin, Ian Maatsen, and Ross Barkley.

In order to address their financial worries and allay any fears about the club being in violation of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Unai Emery’s team has decided to split with Luiz.

Aston Villa close in on player-plus-cash Luiz sale after new talks

In the 2024–25 season, breaking PSR might have resulted in a cash penalty or a reduction of points.

With two years remaining on his Villa Park deal, Luiz was a standout player for Emery’s team as they placed fourth in the Premier League the previous season.

In 53 appearances overall, the midfield standout started 47 games and recorded 10 goals and 10 assists.

After making 27 professional appearances for Juventus last season, where he recorded one goal and two assists in six starts, Iling-Junior, 20, has joined Villa.

Enzo Barrenechea, a 23-year-old defensive midfielder, was a mainstay for Frosinone during his loan stint there in 2023–24, helping the team avoid relegation to Serie B.

Aston Villa intends to accept a striker deal following the disclosure of the “£14 million.”
