The last several weeks have seen Aston Villa handle a lot of transfers.

Lewis Dobbin from Everton was already acquired by the Villans, while Tim Iroegbunam was let go in the process.

It is also expected that Villa will shortly finalise the agreement for Douglas Luiz to join Juventus. In return, the Villans will receive two players and cash.

An update on that front has now been given by Fabrizio Romano, who states that one of Villa’s targets has just arrived in England for his Premier League club medical.

Fabrizio Romano says Enzo Barrenechea is now in England for Aston Villa medical

Barrenechea is now in England, according to the transfer insider who spoke to X, ahead of his scheduled medical examination at Villa.

According to Romano, the first portion of the medical examination will happen on Tuesday night, and the second half will happen tomorrow.

Barrenechea will also try to sign a deal with Villa tomorrow, tying his future to the team through the 2029 summer season.

Romano said in his post’s conclusion that Tuesday is when Samuel Iling-Junior, a fellow Juventus player, will have his Villa medical.

Who is Aston Villa target Barrenechea?

With his entire career ahead of him, Barrenechea is a gifted young midfielder who more than proven his mettle in the Serie A season prior.

The 23-year-old Argentine, who can play at both No. 6 and No. 8, spent the previous season with Frosinone where he appeared in 36 games in Serie A.

Barrenechea is a “very strong” player, according to former Juventus U19 coach Andrea Bonatti, who made this statement earlier this year to Tuttomercatoweb.

He declared, “He’s not any different from Rodri or Sergio Busquets.” Now that he is much more complete, he can play as a midfielder in addition to being a playmaker.

“He has the ability to perform at that level and can succeed in the Juventus environment, but he will need to validate his abilities and it is difficult to replicate himself.”

Along with Barrenechea now in England for his medical, it looks as though another domino is about to fall in the deal that will see Luiz go to Juve and two of their players joining Villa.

Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen is reportedly close to joining the Villans too, and there have also been links between Unai Emery’s side and Lazio’s Luca Pellegrini.

Villa are in the Champions League next season, so they will be eager to bolster their ranks appropriately to make a good impression in Europe’s elite club competition.
