Talks about Philippe Coutinho returning to Vasco da Gama are ongoing, and he will become a free agent.
Philippe Coutinho of Aston Villa is getting closer to rejoining his childhood team, Vasco da Gama. According to reports, the 31-year-old has reached an agreement to rejoin the Brazilian team while his Villa contract is still pending. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Villa will soon approve Coutinho’s departure.

As a free agent, Coutinho would be able to rejoin the team that launched his career, saving Vasco money by signing him. Although he still has years left on his current contract, he played 21 games while on loan at Al-Duhail in Qatar during the previous campaign, netting three assists and racking up six goals.

Coutinho paid £17 million to join Villa in January 2022, following former manager Steven Gerrard’s insistence that he sign. For the second half of the 2021–2022 season, he signed with Barcelona and made an incredible comeback to the Premier League.

In his first eight games for the team, he was involved in seven goals; however, in his next 37 games across all competitions, he only managed two.

Douglas Luiz, another Brazilian, is also expected to depart Villa soon. He is about to sign a €50 million contract to join Juventus. Villa will sign Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior from Juventus in a different deal.

Lewis Dobbin and Ian Maatsen have already joined Villa, while Omari Kellyman will follow Tim Iroegbunam—who secured a £13 million agreement to join Everton—out the door. The 18-year-old will pay £19 million to Chelsea to join after Villa paid £37.5 million to sign left-back Maatsen.
