On Wednesday 20th March, the Ayr Strollers, a walking group organised by Ayr United Football Academy, visited Rugby Park in Kilmarnock to join Killie’s Walk & Talk’s scenic stroll.
The occasion brought to light a major objective shared by the two charities: uniting people to enhance their mental and physical well-being.
Killie’s Walk and Talk welcomes people of all ages, stages, and backgrounds to their weekly walking group every Wednesday afternoon. They take a leisurely stroll through various parts of Kilmarnock while having a conversation along the way.
This is only one of The Killie Community’s free weekly programmes for the general public.
The stroll started with a loop around Rugby Park’s pitch and continued along a peaceful country road through a housing area before returning to the stadium via Dundonald Road.
Following that, walkers took advantage of beverages, a well-earned snack, and more.

“I had the pleasure of walking with one of the strollers: Billy Craig, aged 95, an ex-professional football player who played for Celtic in the mid-50s,” said Lindsay Johnson, Walking Development Officer at Thriving Communities.
Billy and I had a great time travelling this route because it allowed us to explore a new side of Kilmarnock.
Being able to stroll around the field was an amazing experience, and it felt significant to be a member of the group. The delicious meal that followed a cordial greeting was the ideal touch.
Killie’s Walk & Talk regular Lawrie said: “It’s nice to get outside and meet new people. The walks are very enjoyable.” Talking is beneficial.
“The walk highlighted a really powerful message: fans of rivals as big as Killie and Ayr can cross the divide, symbolising unity across communities,” said Jye McCormick, Community Coach at The Killie Community.
Along with her story, Roesheen said, “Every Wednesday we take a walk around Kilmarnock to meet new people and get some fresh air. My husband and I look forward to this every week.” It is unbeatable.
“Afternoon coffee and conversation are a plus. The community of Killie is very helpful to the community. Meeting new individuals from Ayr throughout the walk was a pleasant experience and a great idea.
