Mikey Devlin Explained the reason he joined Ayr United after Scott Brown call answer

The centre half is the latest new face to join Brown’s Somerset revolution – and he is one well known to the manager.

He has performed for and alongside Scott Brown. Furthermore, Mikey Devlin acknowledges that when a well-known name appeared on his phone this summer, he was only thinking about one destination.

The former captain of Livingston has joined Ayr United as their eighth player of a hectic preseason after Brown made a move today to bolster his defense’s core with experience.

After agreeing to a one-year contract with an option to extend, Devlin, 30, who was Brown’s teammate at Aberdeen before being signed by him at Fleetwood Town, says it was simple to convince him to join the Somerset revolution.

“From the outside looking in, you can see this is a club going in the right direction and they are really ambitious,” he said to the Ayrshire Post. The manager’s appointment shouted that, and I know how competitive he is because we share a dressing room. He’s triumphant.

“I was halfway here when I saw his name on my phone. Really, there was nothing to ponder. I was ecstatic to learn that he wanted me here, and it was pretty simple for me to decide to attend and take part in this.”

Three-time Scotland cap winner Devlin thinks Brown’s unwavering motivation will benefit the high-achieving Ayr team this season.

“He is bringing all of the qualities he possessed as a player into management,” he stated. I attempted to absorb everything I could from seeing up close how he trained, acted, and dedicated himself at Aberdeen. You could observe his daily expectations and work ethic while working under him [at Fleetwood]. He expects the same things from his players that he did as a player. It’s a fundamental requirement, and I also attempt to apply myself in that way.
Thankfully, the manager is familiar with both my character and abilities, so maybe I can offer some leadership and experience to the team. I’ll speak up and contribute where I can. You need to be in an environment where success is a constant goal, and this squad has fierce competition.
“As a player, no matter what level you’re playing at, all you can hope for is the chance to be a part of something like this because it’s difficult to succeed in football. However, we have a chance here with a manager and assistant who have a track record of success. This is an excellent development for all parties concerned as they are eager to accomplish it.”
