After an hour, Bryden’s goal from Anton Dowds’ cross gave the Honest Men a crucial 2-1 victory over fellow struggling team Inverness on Saturday.

Ayr is now four points outside of the relegation play-off slot and four points inside the promotion play-offs as a result of the outcome.

Bryden scored the winning goal, his first in the Championship this year, and Brown expressed his excitement at seeing the 19-year-old strike the back of the net.

Regarding Dowds’ choice to cross the ball for his teammate, Brown remarked, “Most strikers are a bit selfish and want to score the goals, but it seemed Fraser was in a great position.”

“The best place to score goals is between the posts, and Fraser wants to score goals. He scores goals naturally.

“I’m happy for him to get his goal because he hasn’t scored many goals in the league this season and he needs to add that to his game, which he is doing.” The man is from the area and supports Ayr.

With just five minutes remaining, George Stander headed in a cross from Harry McHugh, but Billy McKay’s header in first-half stoppage time gave the home team a point when referee Iain Snedden appeared to have given a soft penalty.

Brown expressed his satisfaction with the manner his players handled the setback after the break on Saturday, even though they had two weeks to process the heartbreaking loss to Dunfermline in their previous meeting.

“Last weekend’s outcome was disappointing,” he stated. “However, the boys persevered and never gave up. We took a slightly more direct approach and had a good chance to score a few goals in the second half.”

“A few choices will inevitably go in your favour or against you, but the guys held strong. We were able to limit them to one accurate shot.

“From front to back, the guys were perfectly organised today. I am incredibly proud of them.
