Barnsley have parted company with head coach Neill Collins, the club has confirmed.

The Tykes are in fifth place in the League One standings going into their final-day home game against Northampton.

They are still in danger of missing out on the play-offs since Oxford, Lincoln, and Blackpool are all very close behind.

The Yorkshire team lost 3-2 at Bloomfield Road over the weekend, and they had only gained one point from their previous five games. Before scores from John McAtee and Adam Phillips in the second half, they were behind 3-0.

Collins took over as manager of the Seasiders last summer after Michael Duff left to join Swansea, but the outcome against them has proven to be the last straw.

The club will “update supporters in the coming days” regarding Martin Devaney’s temporary takeover as team manager.

“Neill has been extremely professional throughout the period with which I have worked with him; he has done everything he can to push the team in the direction we all want Barnsley to go,” stated Mladen Sormaz, director of football.

Over the time I’ve dealt with him, he has always acted with dedication and professionalism.

But since we have a pivotal season finale coming up, we believe this is the ideal moment to make a shift.

“We appreciate the supporters’ unwavering support and ask everyone to cheer on the team this Saturday when they take on Northampton. In the upcoming days, supporters will receive an update.”

Last month, Wanderers and Oakwell tied 2-2 thanks to a thrilling equaliser by Randell Williams in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

The previous season, the Whites lost 2-1 on aggregate to Barnsley in the play-off semi-final.
