Six-month Furness road closure to impact travel to Barrow

An upcoming road closure is predicted to impact for at least six months.

The closure will run along U6116 Parkhouse Road in Newton-in-Furness, from its junction with the U6106 Newton Road, extending in a south westerly direction for approximately 2.5km.

This has been put in place to allow Cadent Gas to carry out utility works which are expected to commence on Monday, August 19.

Dalton with Newton Town Council said it would impact those travelling to Barrow via Holbeck and in the reverse direction for half a year.

A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the unrestricted sections of U6116 (Parkhouse Road, Yarlside Road and Holbeck Road), C6005 (Leece Lane) and U6106 (Stank Lane and Newton Road).

Due to the nature of the works, it is not possible to maintain access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists through the extents of the temporary road closure.

Access for emergency vehicles will not be maintained for the duration of these works.
