Head coach Paul Crarey of the BARROW Raiders complimented his team after they defeated the Battley Bulldogs 24-14 in the Betfred Championship to get back to winning ways.
The Raiders entered the game on Sunday at the Northern Competitions Stadium having already lost badly to the Sheffield Eagles and Doncaster RLFC two weeks prior.
In the first five minutes, Luke Creswell scored the first goal; however, Dale Morton levelled the score in the twelfth minute with a header.
Thanks to Josh Woods’ penalty kick and Adam Glenhill’s try, the visitors had a tenuous two-point lead at the half.
But Crarey’s team had the ideal reaction, winning just their third league game of the year in the second half with 12 unanswered points.
After Razor Silva provided the team some breathing room in the 71st minute by holding off three defenders to touch down, James Greenwood restored the advantage early in the second half by latching onto a dangerous kick from Walker.
After the game, Crarey commented, “I thought this was going to be a real tight, gritty game,” in an interview with the Club website. The points they scored in the first half were given to them.
“I felt that in the second half, we needed to improve our completion rate. We did a great job with the ball and put in a lot of effort to earn our opportunities. I felt that the second half was mostly under our control.
“I’m quite happy that I won. After two significant losses and subpar performances, we don’t wallow in self-pity; instead, we pick ourselves back up. That’s what we carry out.
“I think the supporters were outstanding. They immediately followed us, and in the end, I believe they were the difference.
Next up for action is Crarey’s side in May 18 when they go to play Toulouse Olympique in the South of France.
