This month and into August, Barrow Raiders’ wildly popular Junior Education Training Scheme initiative will return after eight fantastic years.

Through the JETS project, head coach Paul Crarey and his staff extend an invitation to local amateur coaches to learn from and profit from their professional coaching experience.

ARLFC coaches from the following local teams: Barrow Island, Millom, Askam, Ulverston, Dalton, Roose Pioneers, Hindpool, Walney, and Marsh Hornets. On Monday, July 29, all part-time coaches are welcome to attend the free Coach the Coaches seminars.

The stadium will be accessible to all local kids in the weeks that follow, whether they are from Furness and Cumbria’s schools and colleges or their respective amateur rugby league clubs. It is not required that the kids belong to any community clubs.

Paul Crarey will monitor the entire evening as the coaches put what they learned in week one into practice during these sessions.

These lessons, which run from 6 to 7 o’clock in the evening, are open to U11 players, players in year 10, and year 11 players who wish to advance their skills.

In addition to the JETS sessions, 16–18-year-olds can practice to apply for a spot on the Furness Raiders squad starting at 7 p.m.

Through this rugby league JETS project, a number of well-known Raiders first team players—including Luke Broadbent, Rio Corkill, Ryan Johnston, Jake Carter, Ellis Archer, and Charlie Emslie—have advanced.

While some saw the JETS as a means of getting into Super League teams, others were selected for the Raiders’ starting lineup.
