Birmingham City have announced that Tony Mowbray will be permanently stepping down from his role as manager following a period of medical leave.
Birmingham City have seen plenty of speculation over their managerial role in the months following Mowbray’s forced period of absence. After unexpected surgery, he has been recovering and has now decided to step down for good, allowing him to spend time with his family after full recovery.

It means the Blues are in need of a new boss, and the sooner and appointment can be made, the better.

The club are League One bound after relegation and need a new manager to lead them back to the Championship.

With that said, here are three available managers that Birmingham City must target…

Liam Rosenior

Rosenior has already been linked with the vacant post at Birmingham City and with Mowbray stepping down, expect the Blues to ramp up their chase of the controversially sacked boss.

He departed Hull City at the end of the season after they fell just short of the play-off finish. The move was met with dismay by Tigers fans though, and shock by onlookers outside of the club.

It would be an ambitious move but with City eyeing a bright future, bringing him in would be a statement.

Alex Neil

Neil was tempted down to League One by a big club in Sunderland before and as he looks to find success in his next role, perhaps a drop to the third-tier once again would appeal to him.

As touched on before, the ambitious plans for the future at Birmingham City may well see them attract a Championship calibre manager, so they’d be right to set their sights high as Mowbray moves on.

Neil has promotions to his name and could definitely add another with a move to St. Andrew’s.

Scott Parker

Last but not least is Scott Parker, who could really benefit from a move to Birmingham City.

While he’s managed in the Premier League and Belgian top-flight before, some still aren’t convinced by his abilities in the dugout given his biggest successes have come with good financial backing at Fulham and Bournemouth.

He’d have plenty of money behind him with the Blues too, but the chance to lead them up from League One and then into a new chapter back in the Championship could be ideal for him. A drop down a level or two may be beneficial for him after struggles in Belgium with Club Brugge too.
