Birmingham City is still determined to succeed even after being dropped to League One, and they want to close deals this summer to guarantee their quick return to the Championship.
Dan Scarr, a center-back for Plymouth Argyle, has recently been linked to the Blues as Chris Davies wants to bolster his team in anticipation of the team’s first season in the third division in thirty years.
Scarr, who was born in Bromsgrove, is an open admirer of Birmingham City and was actually a player for the team from 2017 to 2019 after being signed from the local non-league team Stourbridge.
Despite playing just once for the team during his tenure at St. Andrew’s, he was unable to establish himself in the first team. However, since moving to Walsall in January 2019, he has clearly become a better player.
Carlton Palmer on Birmingham City’s interest in Dan Scarr
Scarr would be a wonderful addition for Birmingham City, according to former England international and current pundit Carlton Palmer, but he wonders if Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth team will allow him to go considering Scarr played a significant role in the Championship last year.
Palmer stated, “Birmingham City are interested in signing experienced 29-year-old center-back Dan Scarr from Plymouth Argyle,” in an exclusive interview with Football League World.
“In one year, his contract will end. After falling out of favour under Ian Foster, Dan made a comeback to the Plymouth team for the final six Championship games. As a result, the team avoided relegation and continued in the Championship, but Birmingham City was relegated to League One.
It’s unclear if Wayne Rooney will let veteran centre back Dan Scarr leave despite his strong presence.
It’s intriguing to note that Dan was formerly a player for Birmingham City. If they were successful in closing the transaction, he would provide experience and presence to the team as he has been promoted from League One and knows the area well.
“Considering his influence towards the conclusion of the last campaign, it’s unclear if Rooney will let him leave at the end, even if he was instrumental in keeping Plymouth in the league.
“Birmingham City would be wise to sign him, but we’ll have to wait and see.” He was promoted The Bromsgrove-born Scarr would make a smart addition to Birmingham City in League One, but let’s wait and see. He’ll play 109 times overall for Plymouth Argyle before returning to the Championship in 2023.
Dan Scarr would be a great signing for Birmingham City
Scarr’s development as a player since leaving Birmingham five and a half years ago is undeniable, and this might be the ideal opportunity for him to return to St Andrew’s.
Scarr is a Birmingham supporter, so he would probably be thrilled to rejoin the team. Having only appeared on the pitch once in his previous two-year stint, he would probably feel that Birmingham never saw his best game and that he still has unfinished business there.
The 29-year-old’s experience from winning a League One title campaign would be invaluable to the Blues, and he’s still a good age for a center-back, so he has more to offer.
Scarr has less than a year left on his Home Park contract, thus a move would probably be within Scarr’s means and not bankrupt the Blues’ owners, Knighthead Capital.
With Scarr’s recent experience, Birmingham could be able to achieve their goals of winning the League One title and automatic promotion.
