One relegation rival boss has had his say if he will sign a player strongly linked with a move to Birmingham City.
After being questioned about whether Sheffield Wednesday will recruit Ian Poveda, a target for Birmingham City, the manager of the team, Danny Rohl, stated that his main goal is to keep the squad winning.
The 24-year-old signed a contract with the Owls to play on loan through the end of the campaign. Leeds United is loaning him out, but it’s been said that they won’t be extending his deal this summer.
At the end of January, the Colombian international could have joined Wednesday or Birmingham City, but he choose to play at Hillsborough. Shortly after the window closed, Tony Mowbray disclosed that Blues were targeting him since he and Poveda had previously collaborated at Blackburn Rovers.
Birmingham City, who are in the bottom three heading into the last day, will face challenge from Wednesday to stay in the Championship. The Yorkshire club will not make any transfer preparations until they are certain of the league they will play in the following season.
“We know these players and that they gave us quality in the second leg (half of the season),” Rohl stated in a statement to our pals at The Star. Ike Ugbo has scored for us, and we know that Ian had a positive impact when he played.
“We’ll work to assemble a strong team, but for now, we’re focused on Saturday. On Sunday, we can start talking about the next move.”

This season, Poveda has made ten appearances for Wednesday, and in their 2-0 victory over Birmingham in February, he assisted on one of the goals. He has missed the last four games due to injury, but he might return for their season finale at the Stadium of Light on the road against Sunderland. Despite having a worse goal differential than Birmingham, they are three points clear of them.
